Since the times when it was considered the Sintra of the Alentejo, this Alentejana town presents several points of interest. One of the last strongholds of the Jews in Portugal it preserves still original aspects of the medieval Judaism and it has one of the oldest synagogues of the country. The Medieval Castle is preserved well and there are around ten interesting churches. The town is along the wine route of São Mamede.
The most important festivities happen in the week of Easter and have the peculiarity to fuse Jewish and Christian rituals creating a unique moment of celebration, that welcomes hundreds of people every year.
